Loud and Inconsistent

by: Frustrated X2

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We purchased this combo unit on 2/8/13 and it has never quite worked to our satisfaction. Within the first year, it was repaired 4 times. After acknowledging it was a lemon, Whirlpool sent us another one on 1/2/14. It's been repaired twice since and continually has issues. For the most part, the Microwave has worked as a microwave should. We do not use a Microwave for anything other than melting butter and chocolate, steaming frozen vegetables and reheating an occasional meal. For these tasks it works fine. The oven, on the other hand, has been anything but satisfactory (or what we expect from the Whirlpool brand). Most importantly, the heat is inconsistent. Just because we set the temperature to certain level does not necessarily mean the oven bakes near that temperature. One day it is too hot, the next too low. For the past two years, we have used a thermometer inside the oven to track the true temperature. The higher the temperature setting, the larger the disparity in the temperature between the thermometer in the oven the readout on the oven display. The most recent example was today, November 18, 2019, my wife was cooking bacon in the oven (no grease splatter and nice flat bacon strips) at 425 degrees F, at least that is what the oven readout showed. When she looked at the thermometer inside the oven it only read 360 degrees F. This is truly frustrating when she's baking bread, cookies, cakes etc. that are very reliant on the correct heat to properly bake. (one of the repairmen suggested preheating 10 minutes longer than when the oven beeps at temperature to ensure that the oven is properly heated, but unfortunately, that does not solve the problem). In addition, the oven is exceptionally loud when operating and cooling down. While the oven is running, normal decibel conversations cannot happen. My wife and I have to come close to yelling to be heard over the sound of the oven. On top of that, once it is done cooking and is shut off, the loudness continues for another 10-15 minutes while it cools down. We leave the oven door open after cooking just to speed up the cooling process so the fan (the culprit in this loudness) shuts off sooner. This is highly annoying, and not something we expected from an oven of this caliber. We have several friends with less expensive Whirlpool oven models that don't deal with this issue. Finally, it leaks steam. Every so often, liquid leaks out of the bottom corner of the oven, onto our cabinet drawer below, and drips on the floor. I'm pretty sure that isn't supposed to happen. No this is not excess liquid that boiled over from a dish in the oven. We put a cookie sheet underneath anything with the potential to boil over to make sure that doesn't happen (because cleaning the oven not only heats the entire kitchen up but when the cycle is complete, it beeps incessantly until you turn it off - no going to bed while the clean cycle is on!). All in all, this has been an extremely lackluster appliance and extraordinarily disappointing. Although it still operates, we are already researching replacement microwave / wall oven options. I wish I could say that Whirlpool is not on the list of replacement units, but as Whirlpool manufactures most of the brands that make this type of appliance, that would be difficult.

I had this for 2 years and don't have a lot of good things to say. I have had $100 microwave ovens that cooked food faster, worked more efficiently. My last microwave worked for more 15 years and I donated the piece in perfectly working condition. Here is the list of problems with the so called "Gold series" oven from Whirlpool 1. the microwave is very low powered (900W). It takes forever to heat the food. But, that is the least of the problems. 2. Many a times, the touch buttons are not responsive 3. sometimes the microwave is running and turntable rotates but the food doesn't heat up, it is cold or at the same temperature we put it in. 4. a number of times the turntable just gets stuck and does not rotate. The countdown gets stuck as well. We have to fiddle around with it to start working again. Overall, I am very unhappy with this product and all of the whirpool products which I have in my house.

Very happy with stove

We bought this stove after reading many reviews and comparisons and are very happy with the stove. One complaint in which we were concerned was that the stove was noisy from the fan running; however, we hardly notice the fan running and do not find it to be an issue. The stove/microwave combination was an easy installation. It cooks and bakes very uniformly, does a very nice job. This stove cooks and bakes better than our previous GE profile oven. The controls are intutive and I really like the reheat setting on the microwave. Only three recommended improvements 1) back lighting for the controls 2) oven racks with easy glide oven racks 3) trim kit for oven should be included. We can not rate it on reliability as of yet since we have only had it installed for a month at this point.
